Digital. Additive. Sustainable.

Innovator and Enabler

More than 120 employees

Access to more than 3200 m² laboratory and technical space

Access to over 25 facilities for metal AM

and more than 15 facilities for polymer AM

The future of the manufacturing industry demands for advanced and sustainable solutions – not only to remain economically viable and competitive but also to meet environmental and climate protection requirements.

Digitalization and Additive Manufacturing (AM), also known as 3D printing, offer extraordinarily profitable answers to these challenges. In this context, the Digital Additive Production Chair DAP was founded at RWTH Aachen University in August 2016 with the appointment of Prof. Johannes Henrich Schleifenbaum. Today, more than 120 motivated and talented employees research and develop the future of digitalization and Additive Manufacturing for a sustainable future.

“In addition to research and education, the applications and the transfer of know-how into the industry are particularly important to me. The cooperative surroundings of the RWTH Aachen University, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and industrial partners will provide the ideal fertile ground for such developments. This way, we can sustainably strengthen the manufacturing industry and meet our obligations to our partners: generating viable solutions for them. ”

Our Mission

Viable AM Solutions for a Better Tomorrow

We are enablers: We contribute our expertise to strengthen and to advance the developing and the manufacturing industry in sustainable ways. Collaboration is our key to solve practice-relevant challenges and to expand technological limits based on our fundamental research results: To our partners from industry, we are a competent and reliable companion for their business´ transition from conventional manufacturing technologies to value-added AM implementation.

Additionally, we provide tomorrow´s AM specialists and excellently trained Digital Natives. In practical projects, we prepare them for their contribution to the industry´s AMification and digitalization.

From digitalization and production networking to materials and manufacturing to post-processing and quality assurance:
We want to preserve value creation and industrial production as an essential part of our prosperity, put it on the AM track and, thus, contribute to a better tomorrow.

Our Network

We tackle challenges from different perspectives. For this reason, we actively engage in networks to exchange and expand bundled knowledge from industry as well as basic and applied research in an interdisciplinary manner. This enables us to develop excellent and advanced approaches along an entire value chain.
