Funding Opportunities

There are a number of public funding programs at EU, federal or state level that provide financial support for your research projects. The type of funding, the consortia composition and the funding conditions differ. Find the different funding programs below.

Clusterplatform

On the cluster platform, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research provide information on numerous cluster networks either funded by the federal and state governments or privately financed. They apply to almost all industries and fields of technology.

BMBF

The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) promotes research and development of promising technologies in order to create the economic and social foundations for the future of our country. Its tasks also include international exchange in the fields of education, science and research.

BMWI

The German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWI) aims to support innovation in Germany through innovation-friendly framework conditions and market-oriented support programs. The objective is to push forward innovation and digitalization in the mid-tier, to generate enthusiasm for technical and scientific professions, and to secure tomorrow’s qualified young talents.

DFG

The German Research Foundation (DFG) is a central self-governing organization of science in Germany. It serves science in all its branches by funding research projects at universities and other research institutions.

ZIM

The Central Innovation Program for SMEs (ZIM) is a funding program specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises with no technology or industry restrictions

IGF

The Industrial Collaborative Research (IGF) elaborates orientation knowledge and develops technological platforms for entire industries or for cross-industry use. This is intended to support long-term research cooperations in industry-wide and/or cross-industry networks. This way, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) shall be provided with access to practice-oriented research results.

AIF

As a registered non-profit association, the German Federation of Industrial Research Associations (AiF) focuses on application-oriented research and development for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, it primarily promotes the exchange between industry and research in order to quickly put new research results into practice. Its services are addressed, in particular, to German companies.

EU Horizon

The European Union funds research within the Horizon 2020 initiative, which is the EU’s framework program for Research and Innovation. Essentially, Horizon 2020 focuses on three key areas: excellent science, industrial leadership and societal challenges.
